Did you ever play dress ups as a kid? How joyous was it to dress up in clothes that weren’t your own? To pretend you were all grown up? Never being worried about how silly you looked or if it was flattering. No fear of being judged… it was all about having fun.
What I still love about getting all dressed up is, the freedom to experiment and tailor your own personal style. You can be rock chic one day and bohemian the next. It’s a fun way to channel your creative side. Everyday I visualise being a blank canvas and I try to paint a different picture.
There was something about denim dungaree dresses I was drawn too. My first initial thought was, “I can’t wear this, what will people think”? Gotta looovvvee insecurities. I quickly kicked this thought to the curb because that’s where it belongs. Logically I know as a personal stylist you can adopt any trend and make it work for you.
It’s easy to shy away from a trend because you either feel like it’s not age appropriate or you don’t have the body to pull it off. Age and body shape isn’t important when you find the right cut, colour and shape for you.
I looked long and hard before I found the dungaree dress for me. Seriously, it took me a long long time. Write a list of what you’re looking for, that’s going to work for your body shape. I’m short so, it couldn’t be too long but I didn’t want it too short. All my big butt friends know we need something fitted otherwise our butt just looks even bigger. For the width of my shoulder, I don’t want straps too narrow. Your list will remind you of what you’re looking for and prevent you from buying impulsively because it’s so easy to.
This River Island denim dungaree dress I’m wearing a size 12. I bought this dress a couple of months ago when it was colder which is why I’m wearing a long sleeve top and stockings. In spring you can style this dress with a t-shirt and sandals.
So readers, do like making trends your own? Do you enjoy dressing up?
Bomber jackets are the hottest thing around right now. It is the must have piece this season. There are so many different versions of the bomber jackets there is sure to be one that fits your personality and style.
I wanted to find out where the bomber jacket originated from. I discovered the bomber jacket, or flight jacket has been around for a very, very long time. The bomber jacket goes all the way back to World War 1. The military pilots needed something warm to wear during flight. They were made out of leather because it was durable to stand the weather conditions.
Over the years the bomber jacket has transformed, it wasn’t till the late 60’s to 80’s the bomber jacket became the fashionable item it is today.
I’ve chosen 5 all $60 and under, in different material and colours. There is a cross between more feminine styles to more military to try and cater to everyone. You can wear it over a t-shirt with jeans and sneakers or with a dress. Have fun, don’t be afraid to style your bomber with what you have in your wardrobe.
Lightweight Zipped Sleeve Pocket in pink – not much detail and more feminine because of it’s blushing colour. Made from polyester and lightweight so you can still wear it as the weather gets warmer.
The Boohoo Clean Cotton Bomber Jacket – This one is made from cotton, another one of my favourite materials. This khaki version is more on the military side which is right on trend. I love the zipper details on the sleeves.
The Sophia Velvet Bomber Jacket – Velvet and embroidery on and the front and back. It’s fairly light weight to wear in spring and less puffy on the arms if you don’t like adding bulk to your shoulders.
Ponte in black– Another less bulky jacket. Cute zippers on the sleeves. At $50 it’s a steal. It would be very easy to style this jacket because it’s so versatile.
Which one would you choose? Are you a proud owner of a bomber jacket?
When I think of winter, the first thing that comes to mind is staying warm and dry under blankets in front of the fire, wearing ugg boots. When I think of summer, I think of going out and making the most of daylight savings. Having to dress up and going out in winter isn’t at all desirable because I know I’m going to sacrifice some warmth and comfort to look good. I have memories of going out at night in the city, in my early twenties wearing nothing but a dress in 10 degree weather. I look back on that now and I don’t know how I did it. I suspect sheer vanity or youth. I might only be 29 now, but ladies, times have changed. I now freeze my butt off when it’s 16 degrees, that’s WITH layers.
Wearing a dress to a party is always my first preference. There’s something about wearing a dress that makes me feel like a lady, sexy yet elegant. Anything that makes you feel those things is a winner in my books.
There’s a lot of tie up dresses, tops and skirts this season and I’m loving it. A tie up dress is really flattering and great for hiding bumps and any unwanted lady lumps. When I saw the Zoe Tie Dress from Lace and Heels Boutique on Instagram – it simply had to be mine.
I’ve worn this dress to a couple of different events, it’s really warm and the perfect dress for winter. The first time I wore it, I was in Melbourne for a stylist night. It wasn’t too cold yet so I got away with wearing just the dress and my leopard points. Leopard and burgundy, what a great colour combination right? The second time I wore it, was for a birthday and it was a lot colder. I paired the dress with my leather jacket, opaque stockings and black boots.
They no longer have this dress in burgundy but they do in black and grey. To purchase, click on either black or grey and I’ll take you straight through to the website. The dress is $69.95. Sizes go up to 12 – I’m wearing the size 12. Option for express shipping is available.
So readers, do you love wearing dresses to events? Do you like the in trend tie up style?
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Autumn. It did take longer than expected but with the temperature dropping and leaves starting to fall off trees I think it’s safe to say Autumn has arrived. I love Autumn, it’s not too cold and it’s not too hot and I get to wear some of my favourite items of clothing this time of year. Jeans, knits, ponchos, tunics just to name a few.
This outfit is simplistic but not dull, comfortable yet stylish. You could wear this outfit to work on casual Friday’s, grocery shopping or catching up with friends. When it gets cold you could wear a trench coat or leather jacket with it. Dress it up with boots or strappy heels, a clutch and statement earrings.
Black jeans is one of the greatest inventions of all time. If you don’t own a pair of black jeans this is why you should run out and buy a pair;
Dirt doesn’t show on them
They go with everything
I bought these Prima Estelle Curve Embracer skinny jeansfrom Jeanswest. I’ve been buying Jeanswest jeans for quite some time now and I love how they cater for the vertically challenged like myself. I would normally have to pay to get my jeans altered but I don’t have to with Jeanswest 7/8 jeans they are the perfect length. There jeans hold there shape and colour wash after wash. I love jeans I wear mine till I literally get holes in them, (my baby thighs rub together). Good quality jeans are essential.
I’m having a love affair with burgundy at the moment. I’m buying so much burgundy I can’t get enough of it. In the past during the cooler months I would normally stick to wearing navy, black and grey. It can pay off to try something new because you might just end up loving it.
This side split roll neck sleeveless knit from Forever New is really affordable and versatile. When it gets colder you can wear it on top a leather jacket, cardigan or parker with a scarf. Black, white, navy, mustard and grey works well with this colour.
Now lets talk shoes. I’m wearing the Tiffy snake skin lace up flats from Target. They are comfy and sexy well I think there sexy for flats. You can’t buy the snakeskin online but you can buy black online.
Is this an outfit you would wear on the weekend? What colours are you loving right now?
You’ve slept through your alarm and you’ve woken up in a panic. You should be leaving your house but you know you’re going to be late. Stress is increasing and you still have no idea what you’re going to wear. We’ve all been there, right? So what do you wear when you don’t know what to wear? Something comfortable yet feminine? Something cool enough to wear in this abnormally warm autumn weather or wearing layers just incase the temperature drops. I’m talking about the shirt dress.
Last weekend I went to my cousin’s baby’s christening. Below is a picture of the gorgeous little man because I just couldn’t help myself. It was going to be yet another hot weekend in Sydney. No signs of Autumn just yet.
I ran out of time to buy an outfit so I had to dig deep into my wardrobe and find something that was going to be cool enough but also appropriate.
I’m really loving white at the moment it’s so lovely and fresh. When I was a teenager I was led to believe only skinny girls should wear white because it’s not as flattering as black. What I know now is all about the cut and fit of your outfit determines what suits your body. The message of this post is wear white. Personal tip, if you have a habit of dropping food on you like I do, don’t eat while wearing white 🙂
As I’m bigger at the bottom I personally think it’s more flattering to wear a fitted bottom like this tailored skirt. The top I can afford to go a bit looser because I went with a fitted bottom and my curves aren’t hidden. You could wear a fitted top and go with a looser bottom it works both way.
This white skirt I purchased in the January sales. Here is a similar one.
My top is by White Closet and I found a very similar White Closet top here.
I was meant to post this my first week back to work but I’ve been missing in action organising my friend’s hen’s celebration which was on the weekend. On a side note, organising an event is stressful right? I’ve been dying to show you this dress for a while now and I hope you love it as much as I do.
I love the brand Atmos&Here. I’m always guaranteed to find something I love by Atmos&Here on The Iconic website… every single time!
I haven’t bought much work attire in a long time so, my outfits for work are looking pretty average. I didn’t want to start work in the New Year wearing something quite ordinary to only end up feeling quite ordinary by the end of my first day back. You want to feel confident at work and when you love what you’re wearing, you feel great and your confidence shines through.
The Collette Jersey Wrap Dress is versatile, you’re not just limited to wearing it to work, it doubles as a weekeend dress. I’m short, curvy and this style of dress compliments my figure. A V neck gives the illusion of a longer neck than what I actually do and it’s also good for the bust area.
I love the monochrome pattern and how comfortable it is especially in the warm weather.
So readers, what do you think of my new dress? Have you bought anything from Atmos&Here before?
It was that time of the year again, when people drink too much and make a fool of themselves in front of their colleagues. Yes I’m talking about the annual work Christmas party. For the last four years there’s always been a certain dress theme so, it was a nice change to be able to dress up as myself, rather than Pocahontas who I dressed up as last year.
Last Friday night, I bought this Sunny girl dress a couple of weeks ago for my Christmas party and I couldn’t wait to show you it. This dress was my first purchase from Evergreen clothing. I stumbled across this shop on Instagram. If I ever need anything I just go on Instagram these days because that’s where I’ll find it and even if I don’t need anything I’ll still find something I want on Instagram. If you’re broke or trying to save money stay off Instagram that would be my recommendation ladies, if you’re anything like me.
I saw this dress on Evergreen clothing and I fell in love with the print. The v neckline which is great for busty women and its knee length is the perfect length for hanging out with work colleagues. Just one problem, the store is in Mornington and I live in Sydney, I’m not traveling interstate for a dress. I click on the link to their website in their Instagram profile and their website isn’t ready yet for purchasing online. At this point I don’t know whether to give up and find another dress for my Christmas party or ask the question on Instagram, is there a way I can purchase this dress? I sent them an email and they quickly responded. Mel always replied to my emails in a friendly and helpful manner. I wanted to mention this because working in customer service myself I appreciate friendly and efficient people, adds to the buying experience.
If this Sunny girl dress isn’t for you and you have an Instagram account, you need to checkout Evergreen clothing because they have some beautiful clothing at affordable prices. If you don’t have Instagram you need to get onto that ASAP!
The dress is made out of 100% spun rayon, lightweight and breathable which is perfect for hot Australian summer days. There is a zipper down the side and ribbon to tie a bow. I’m wearing a size 12.
Tan or white shoes would be perfect to wear with this dress.
So readers do you love this dress too? Are you also addicted to Instagram?
Let me start off by saying I’ve never been a big fan of exercising. I’ve tried different forms of exercising from kickboxing to Zumba, pole dancing to jogging but have never found anything I’ve stuck with longer than two years. There’s also the sweating factor and my hair getting dirty and that’s just an inconvenience.
I got a big surprise when I had a blood test to find my cholesterol was a bit too high. It wasn’t high enough to be of great concern about but my doctor recommended for me to cut out the bad food and to start exercising. I’m only 28, I didn’t think I would have to worry about health issues like cholesterol till I was at least 50. Since I don’t like exercise and am very lazy, I found it hard to come up with an exercise plan I was going to stick too. I procrastinated and did nothing for a few months till I went bridesmaid dress shopping. I was aware I had put on weight as I don’t weigh myself but my clothes had become tight to the point I could no longer wear some of them. It’s such an awful feeling when you want to wear something and it doesn’t fit. So there I am, sitting on the lounge in the change room that’s bigger than my bedroom. In one hand is a glass of champagne and in the other the ten dresses that couldn’t zip up. As horrible as it felt it was the kick in the butt I needed.
I had this tutor in year 12 who tried ever so hard to get me to study. He suggested I buy a new desk lamp or stationery something that would entice me to sit at my desk. So if you haven’t already guessed what I bought to motivate me to exercise I bought new gym clothes!
I discovered Elsa Activeon Instagram and I fell in love with all the colourful patterned active wear. There is something about patterns and colours that just makes me happy.
Wearing the Ambra Short Sleeve Top in medium by Abi and Joseph. It comes in a range of colours. The material is gorgeous and so comfortable to wear.
The Dreamcatcher 7/8 tightsare full length on me because I’m so short but this doesn’t bother me at all because I love the feel and the shape they give me. These are also by Abi and Joseph, wearing medium.
This year I will be ready for summer and I’ll be doing it in style.
Are you ready for summer? Do you enjoy exercising?
Jo from iCurvy has taken this pin from They All Hate Us for this month’s challenge. What I do is put my own spin to it, using my style but inspiration from the pin. This pin shows two ladies looking hot and feminine wearing denim on denim. I love chambray and light denim especially in warmer weather. The leopard, stripes, scarf and heels really gives it that modern chic look.
Here is my comfortable but still chic spin.
The jacket was a gift buthere is a similar one // Chambray dress is last seasons from Mix Apparel buthereis a similar one from Mix Apparel // You can buy these Tory Burch thongs here // Necklace was from eBay here is a similar one from The Adorn Collective
Firstly I want to apologize about the picture quality this photo was taken as the sun was setting. I went for more of a comfortable approach opting for thongs over heels, I live in Australia so thongs are totally acceptable. These thongs have a leather strap and gold detail so they are still quite feminine. I love tan and denim they go together like strawberries and chocolate. To brake up the denim on denim and to add some sparkle to the outfit and also because I love some bling I’ve added a statement piece which I got from eBay a few years ago. This chambray dress is really comfortable and practical to wear and it’s right on trend this season. Denim jackets are a classic, who hasn’t owned a denim jacket in their life? This one came all the way from Spain.
