“I don’t understand why cupid was chosen to represent Valentines’s Day. When I think about it romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon” – Anonymous
Am I correct in saying the only people who love Valentine’s Day are the people who know they are going to receive flowers and chocolate while everyone else wishes they were receiving flowers but more importantly chocolate?
I went to an all girls school and I can remember every time a florist van would appear in the driveway all the girls would stare outside the window hoping that bunch of roses was for them. When the lucky girl found out the roses were for her they would scream and giggle and jump up and down. According to the Valentine’s Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey 53% of women would end their relationship if they didn’t get something for Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day can be hard for single people. All the advertising from retailers doesn’t help. This week alone and it’s only Tuesday I have received emails on Valentine present ideas from Tiffanys, Ebay, Bobbi Brown and Oroton. For what to wear on Valentine’s Day Jeanswest, Myer, ASOS, Review and Modnique have sent me different outfit options depending on what my plans are.
Cards are still the most popular gift for Valentine’s; ecards seem to be the way to go. There are some great ones from sassyvalentines.tumblr.com if you’re looking for the perfect card to show your loved one how much you mean to them.
The Valentine’s Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey was conducted in the US. Another stat I love from it was the average number of children conceived on Valentine’s Day is 11,000; those ecards must really do the trick.
14% of women send flowers to themselves on Valentine’s Day. I won’t stand for women spending around $80 on flowers that are going to die because of one day that’s not even significant enough to be a public holiday (well not yet anyway). Don’t get me wrong I love flowers but only when I’m receiving them not sending them to myself. If you’re someone that has previously sent flowers to yourself and you’re on the verge of doing it again stop for minute!
Here are some great gifts you could treat yourself with for $80 or under and you won’t feel embarrassed about buying them either.

Maia Clutch from Review $79.95
Marc Jacobs Daisy 50ml from Perfume Connection $69.95
Assorted Truffles 500g from Haigh’s Chocolates $69

Do you love Valentine’s Day or hate it? What does the day mean to you?
